EVANSTON, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--/Manufacturers’ News, Inc./-- Industrial employment in Missouri increased over the past year, reports the 2015 Missouri Manufacturers Register®, a manufacturers database and directory published by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. (MNI). According to data collected by MNI, Missouri manufacturers added 1,592 jobs, or about a half percent, from August 2013 to August 2014, its third straight year of gains, though less than the 1.3% national average gain as reported by the Labor Department for the same time period.
Manufacturers’ News reports Missouri is now home to 7,876 manufacturers employing 366,322 workers.
“Manufacturers in Missouri are making gains across a variety of sectors,” says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. “The state’s stronghold in both the auto sector and food products industry, combined with its reasonable business costs and large labor pool continue to draw investment and support industrial growth.”
According to the database of Missouri manufacturers, gains were led by the transportation equipment industry, which posted a 2.8% employment increase. The transportation equipment industry accounts for 44,385 jobs in Missouri, ranking it second in the state for industrial employment.

The food products sector accounts for the most jobs in Missouri, employing 51,943, virtually unchanged over the year.
Other manufacturing sectors adding jobs in Missouri include chemicals, up 8.6% and textiles, up 3.9%. Losses were reported in electronics, down 5.5%, and printing/publishing, down 4.2%.
Manufacturing jobs in St. Louis were up 1.4% over last year. Jobs were up 4.7% in Kansas City, and declined 1.3% in Springfield.
