Mobile Industry Leaders Introduce New Consumer-Focused Benchmarking Tool at MobileBench Consortium General Assembly

Announces availability of a beta version of the MobileBench program for consumers

SHANGHAI--()--MobileBench, a consortium of leading companies dedicated to industry-wide development of performance assessment tools for smartphones and tablets, today held its second General Assembly where it introduced a beta version of new MobileBench testing software for consumer use, while briefing attendees on the latest MobileBench development efforts. The event, attended by local government dignitaries and mobile device companies, was held at the Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden Hotel in Shanghai, China.

Since its formation in September of last year, the consortium has been working on two professional engineering tracks: the MobileBench for hardware evaluation and the MobileBench-UX for testing system-level applications that address factors affecting the user experience. These tools will initially focus on addressing the need of developers to better understand every element within a mobile platform and deliver optimal system-level performance to enhance the user experience.

With its first consumer-targeted mobile benchmarking test system, the consortium has taken a major step forward in a collaborative process that will eventually allow consumers to evaluate personal mobile devices on their own. At the General Assembly, a beta version of the consumer-focused MobileBench test software for Android mobile applications was distributed to consortium members and event participants, and can also be requested on the consortium website. The complete version is expected to be released to the general public later this year after undergoing an extensive verification process.

“Interest in the consortium’s efforts to standardize mobile device testing has been very high,” according to MobileBench Consortium board chairperson Mian Quddus. “We’re excited about the strong level of interest across the industry.”

The MobileBench Consortium will be expanding its membership over the next year, with the intent of increasing the range and applicability of its evaluation tools, in contributing to further rapid growth of the industry while enhancing the user experience. Companies interested in joining the consortium can fill out a Membership Request Form at www.mobilebenchconsortium.org/membership-request. The consortium is dedicated to providing more effective component and system-level performance assessment of mobile devices through the use of convenient, objective and uniform benchmark tools for the industry.
