SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Battery East, an institutionally-focused financial services firm with a core expertise in facilitating private stock transactions, announced today that Duncan Niederauer, former Chief Executive Officer of NYSE Group, has joined the company as a Managing Director.
“When we founded Battery East, our mission was to build a structured process that gives leading technology companies access to some of the largest investors in the world,” said Barrett Cohn, Battery East co-founder and Managing Director. “Duncan is one of the foremost experts in markets, specifically public, and is now bringing his expertise to the growing pre-IPO secondary market. It goes without saying this is a tremendous value-add for both Battery East and our clients.”
Battery East, which officially opened for business and announced that Former Founders Fund General Counsel, Howard Caro, joined the team as Managing Director in September, facilitates secondary market transactions in leading, growth-stage companies. The company provides founders, employees, venture investors and companies access to long-term capital from some of the world’s most respected institutional investors. By working directly with company management, Battery East serves the liquidity needs of the individual seller while adding value to the company by adding strategic capital partners that significantly improve the company’s Capitalization table.
“Having overseen the NYSE for the last 7 years, a launchpad for primary markets, I’ve witnessed a period of tremendous change for late-stage companies,” said Niederauer. “I see the pre-IPO market as the next frontier, and I’m excited to be joining a firm dedicated to bringing transparency and an institutional approach to this growing market.”
Niederauer will serve as an active Managing Director at Battery East, where he will help facilitate capital raises and bring his established rolodex of institutional investors to Battery East’s pre-IPO clientele.
Niederauer has enjoyed a long career as a leader in global finance, overseeing the NYSE’s international expansion and technology transformation. Prior to joining the NYSE, Niederauer was Managing Director, partner and co-Head of the Equities Division Execution Services franchise at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he served for 22 years.
