RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Overture today announced its membership in Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV) project to support the advancement of NFV and to help ensure consistency, performance and interoperability among multiple open source components. OPNFV will leverage existing open source components and work with upstream projects to coordinate continuous integration and testing while filling development gaps in existing implementations. Overture has long been a proponent of openness and launched its Ensemble Open Service Architecture™ (Ensemble OSA) in March 2013. In June, Overture launched Harmony, an ecosystem of hardware, software and services partners focused on accelerating service provider’s automation and network functions virtualization (NFV) initiatives at the metro service edge.
“Joining OPNFV is another important way for Overture to contribute to the development of open NFV solutions that are very much aligned with Ensemble OSA™ and the goals of our Harmony ecosystem. Service providers have been clear about the need for openness in the evolution of NFV so that they can more quickly and cost effectively create, activate and assure new revenue-generating services,” said Prayson Pate, Overture CTO and vice president of Research and Development. “In line with all our efforts to ensure NFV solutions are built on the principles of openness, Overture’s collaboration with OPNFV will be grounded in ensuring service providers can select best of breed components, decrease project risks and accelerate deployments.”
The initial scope of OPNFV will be on building NFV infrastructure (NFVI) and Virtualized Infrastructure Management (VIM) leveraging existing open source components where possible.
