VigiLanz Real-Time Software Helps U.S. Hospitals Identify Ebola Virus

SaaS platform quickly configured to support U.S. hospitals’ preparation for potential virus threat

MINNEAPOLIS--()--VigiLanz, a digital healthcare technology company headquartered in Minneapolis, announced today the release of new capability in its real-time software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform to help hospital Infection Prevention practitioners identify patients suspected of having contracted the Ebola virus.

“Ebola is not an easy virus for Infection Prevention practitioners to immediately identify to satisfy isolation and reporting protocols and requirements. Since a rapid Ebola test is not currently available, clinicians are required to review a patient’s travel history and combine that information with a multitude of other symptoms to attempt to ascertain those patients that require closer scrutiny for a possible Ebola virus infection,” said Stacy Pur, vice president for clinical decision support at VigiLanz.

“The flexible design of the VigiLanz real-time SaaS platform enabled our clinical and product teams to quickly add new alerting capability that will assist Infection Prevention practitioners. These on-demand alerts support our clinician clients using their tablets, mobile devices and computer workstations as they monitor many unique combinations of factors that can help identify potential Ebola patients. VigiLanz’ real-time alerts allow healthcare professionals to invoke protective measures to prevent potential spread of a virus within hospital facilities and to report cases to their public health departments sooner. While the primary burden of identifying patients is with examining physicians, having hospital infection prevention teams positioned to provide a second look adds another layer of protection.”

Pur said VigiLanz SaaS technology complements numerous hospital electronic medical record (EMR) systems by providing real-time capability to healthcare organizations and public health responders, and their EMR systems, thus enhancing a clinical team’s effectiveness in the fight against current and emerging infectious disease outbreaks. “The VigiLanz SaaS platform is easy-to-use, rapidly installed and an exceptionally flexible software service for clinicians responding to inpatient and outpatient communities and who are committed to staying on top of potential threats through rapid and effective response.”
