INDIANAPOLIS & KOKOMO, Ind.--()--Family owned and Indiana-based Salin Bank and Trust Company today announced that former President and CEO of Community Howard Regional Health, James P. Alender, will join its executive leadership team as Chief Operating Officer. The Kokomo native has more than 20 years of experience as a commercial bank executive and spent the last 18 years as a hospital administrator.

“We are elated to have Jim on the team,” said Bill Salin, President and CEO of Salin Bank. “His expertise and leadership will help position the bank for the future. We are fortunate to be able to add a person with Jim’s experience and competence in the banking industry.”

Alender is no stranger to Salin Bank as he is currently a member of the Salin Bank Board of Directors and will continue in that capacity. In his new role as Chief Operating Officer for Salin Bank, Alender will concentrate his strategic efforts on finance and accounting, retail banking, wealth management and operations. In addition, he will support Kokomo, Carroll and Cass County commercial banking clients.

As a hospital executive, Alender managed more than 1,350 employees and oversaw the community-based hospital with more than $450 million in gross revenues. In 1998, his business experience helped him secure the financial turn-around for the hospital – from a $6 million loss to a profitable status in only 14 months. One of his major accomplishments was the merger between Community Health Network and the 50-year-old Howard Community Hospital – leading the way for healthcare reform in the market.

His banking career included stints at Key Bank as the district president and at Society National Bank serving in the same capacity. He also served as a senior vice president for Ameritrust National Bank in Indianapolis and Union Bank and Trust in Kokomo.

Alender is a graduate of Krannert School of Industrial Management at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Marketing. He is a graduate of the School of Banking from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.

Alender is a recipient of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs Service Award and a recipient of the Indiana University Kokomo Distinguished Service Award. He is actively involved with the Indiana University-Kokomo Advisory Board, Finance Committee of Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance, Kokomo Noon Rotary Club, American College Healthcare Executives, and the Kokomo Country Club.
