Former Medicare RAC Medical Director Provides Practices with Insider Advice

NAPLES, Fla.--()--Richard Baer was a Medical Director at Medicare for 20 years and for the last 5 years, he was a Medicare Contractor Medical Director for a RAC program. Now, he has teamed up with Coding Leader to share his insider advice during an online training session on Thursday, October 16th, at 2pm ET. Attendees will get his practical solutions to RAC audit challenges and have the unique opportunity to interact with Dr. Baer during the Q&A portion of his talk.

“Over the past 2 years, RAC Auditors have taken back over $2 billion in overpayments from providers nationwide,” Dr. Baer explains. “And what most practices don’t realize is that RACs are financially compensated based on what they collect. Basically, get paid based on the errors identified during an audit. The money they generate is driven by providers having to pay back reimbursements deemed as overpayments, plus any fines specified.”

Here are just a few of the topics Dr. Baer will provide during his presentation:

  • Documentation principles that will protect from RAC Audit microscopes
  • Audit notice type (Automated, Semi-Automated, Complex) responses that head off penalties
  • Speed up the audit process so reimbursements can start up again
  • Common documentation pitfalls that commonly trip up US physician practices
  • RAC sweet spots that target practices for an audit

One of the keys to not getting audited is to stay off of RAC radars. Because once on their radar, it’s only a matter of time before Auditors show up. Who better to show physician practices across the country how to do this than someone from the inside - Richard Baer, MD.

On top of RAC auditors finding errors, and requiring the practice to pay substantial amounts, they also reap havoc during the audit. I’d like to share my knowledge with practices to help reduce their chances of being audited, or, if necessary, come through an audit unscathed.

Physician practices no longer need to face the potential of a RAC audit alone. By utilizing Dr. Baer's advice, they can learn how to survive (or even head off) a RAC audit right from the source.
