Dutchess Capital Management Becomes Title Sponsor of Marijuana Investment Conferences’ October Event

Conference originally scheduled for September now on for Oct. 5-6

HOUSTON--()--Marijuana Investment Conferences announced today that it has secured Dutchess Capital, a global investment fund manager, as its title sponsor for its inaugural conference, which has been rescheduled for Oct. 5-6 at the Westin Memorial City Hotel in Houston.

Founded by CEO Stuart Maudlin, MIC planned to host its first marijuana conference on Sept. 8 but was forced to reschedule when Maudlin’s illness prohibited him from managing the event. Maudlin died on Sept. 14. There will be a special tribute to him on the first day of the conference.

“Stuart Maudlin was best characterized as indomitable, not only because of his relentless battle with cancer but also for bringing this conference to Texas,” said Gold Darr Hood, conference coordinator, MIC. “Thanks to Dutchess Capital’s investment, the conference will be what Stuart had originally envisioned — the place where entrepreneurs and businesses can connect with a new swath of investors to participate in the new economic driver that is the legalized marijuana industry. We are excited about our first event and even more excited about what the future holds.”

“We are pleased to be part of Marijuana Investment Conferences’ inaugural event,” said Douglas Leighton, managing partner of Boston-based hedge fund Dutchess Capital. “For Dutchess, it was fitting to step in to ensure the continuation of this event. We recognize the value that conferences bring to this industry for both companies and investors. Dutchess has made several investments in cannabis companies — including two of our portfolio companies, Mass Roots and American Cannabis Company (otcbb:BIMI) — initially introduced to us through conferences such as this. We look forward to this event as an opportunity to increase our reach within the industry and potentially broaden our portfolio.”

MIC was created to respond to the growing interest in investments in the legalized marijuana industry and the increasing demand for growth capital for the sector’s businesses. It was designed to bring investors together with companies that will provide products and services that will be involved in the growing, harvesting and selling of legalized marijuana.

Although the conference is about management and financials, not lobbying, the Baker Institute for Public Policy will be in attendance to seek input from investors and entrepreneurs alike. Together with the South Texas College of Law, it is drafting a Texas MMJ bill and envisions that it will be written to encourage maximum business development and economic growth.

The inaugural conference will feature networking opportunities, breakout pitch sessions and an industry overview talk by At Prohibition’s End author Tony Alfiere.
