CEA Foundation Extends OATS Grant for Innovative Technology Center for Seniors

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--The CEA Foundation announced its continued support of the Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) and the OATS project which began last year at the Senior Planet Exploration Center in Manhattan, the nation's first technology-themed community center for older adults. The Senior Planet Exploration Center fits with the CEA Foundation’s mission by empowering older adults to harness the power of technology to change the way they age.

As it enters its second year, Senior Planet plans to focus greater resources on program initiatives that address two areas that seniors have identified in year one as particularly important to their quality of life: health and wellness, and financial security.

The Exploration Center opened in early 2013 with support from the CEA Foundation, and has welcomed over 10,000 visitors in its first year.

“OATS has proven the demand for technology among older adults, by providing seniors with free access to world-class technology, training, and support. In their first year they have received an incredible response and are making a real difference in the lives of seniors,” said John Shalam, Chairman of the CEA Foundation.

In 2014 OATS plans to introduce its organizational model and services into additional U.S. geographies, both urban and rural, in partnership with public and corporate partners. In addition to increasing its national footprint, OATS also will expand its program offerings, with a particular focus on initiatives to utilize technology to improve the health, wellness, and financial security of older adults.

“We are thrilled to receive continued support from the CEA Foundation, which will enable us to reach an even larger audience in 2014 and provide more extensive program for older adults. For thousands of seniors, technology is an essential link to strong benefits in social engagement, health, and the ability to live independently,” said Tom Kamber, Executive Director of OATS.
