Baron and Budd Investigating Alleged Chrysler “Nerve Center” Defect

Defect in Certain Vehicles Can Cost Consumers Up to $25,000 to Repair

DALLAS--()--Baron and Budd, a national law firm dedicated to protecting the rights of people harmed by the negligence of large companies, is launching an investigation regarding problems in certain Chrysler vehicles that may be linked to the “Totally Integrated Power Module” (TIPM), also known as the “nerve center” of the vehicle, which controls virtually all of the vehicle’s functions. Not only can this defect cause potentially dangerous problems, it can also cost consumers as much as $25,000 to repair.

According to The Center for Auto Safety (CAS), Chrysler has submitted at least 20 death claims due to problems potentially associated with this defect. CAS is asking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to investigate the defect.

“In some cases, the amount of money required to fix the defect, and any other problems caused by it, is almost like buying a new car,” said Roland Tellis, shareholder at Baron and Budd. “Consumers are being forced to pay a lot of money to fix something that Chrysler should be paying for.”

According to consumer reports, there have been numerous problems associated with the defect, such as:

  • Vehicle stalling
  • Unintended acceleration
  • Sudden loss of electricity
  • Inability to turn your vehicle off
  • Sudden loss of headlights and taillights
  • Inability to shut off your fuel pump
  • Loss of security or ignition systems
  • Airbags not deploying
  • Loss of control of windshield wipers and turn signals

Chrysler has previously announced smaller TIPM recalls in 2007 and 2012.

  • 2010 Dodge Journey
  • 2010-2012 Dodge Nitro
  • 2010-2014 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • 2010-2012 Dodge Ram 1500
  • 2010-2012 Dodge Ram 2500
  • 2010-2012 Dodge Ram 3500
  • 2011-2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Cab Chassis
  • 2011-2013 Dodge Ram 4400/5500 Cab Chassis
  • 2012-2014 Dodge Ram Cargo Van
  • 2011-2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 2010-2012 Jeep Liberty
  • 2010-2014 Jeep Wrangler
