Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games Legacy to Continue to Serve the Public

The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is closed, but the Olympic spirit and the legacy of the YOG will never stop. Even after the end of the Closing Ceremony, many of the facilities used during the Games will continue to serve the Nanjing public. The Games provided a sports and cultural feast for the citizens in Nanjing and spread the Olympic spirit while inspiring young people to live healthier lifestyles. NANJING, China--()--The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is closed, but the Olympic spirit and the legacy of the YOG will never stop. Even after the end of the Closing Ceremony, many of the facilities used during the Games will continue to serve the Nanjing public.

Out of the 35 venues used during the Nanjing 2014 YOG, most of the venues were built during the 10th National Games in 2005 and will keep opened to the general public after competition ends, only the Youth Olympic Village (YOV), Nanjing 2014 Sports Lab and Youth Olympic Sports Park are newly-constructed venues. The Nanjing 2014 Sports Lab, located at the 70,000sqm Fishmouth Wetlands Park, was designed and constructed in accordance with top International standards and will be available for public to use as an outdoor sports venue. The Youth Olympic Sports Park will also become sports facilities for the use of local residents after the conclusion of the Games.

The new Hexi tram that opened on 13 August to help serve the Nanjing 2014 YOG will continue to operate as a part of the Nanjing Metro system. The tram was built using lightweight composite materials to reduce energy consumption and has an advanced low-floor design. The 300 new buses used during the YOG feature the latest in clean emissions technology and will also continue to be used in the public transportation system.

The Nanjing Olympic Museum opened on 17 August in conjunction with the Games was open free to the public throughout the Games. The 5,034 exhibition space will close for a brief period of time before it reopens on an ongoing basis with an exhibition dedicated to the Nanjing 2014 YOG.

The most important part of the Nanjing 2014 YOG legacy are the intangible parts. The Games provided a sports and cultural feast for the citizens in Nanjing and spread the Olympic spirit while inspiring young people to live healthier lifestyles. It also gave the athletes, volunteers and residents of Nanjing the opportunity to interact with their enthusiastic counterparts from around the world.
