COHASSET, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mark Pew will present “The Dope on Work Comp and Medical Marijuana” at the Minnesota Employers Workers Compensation Alliance (MEWCA) meeting on Sept. 12. Pew is senior vice president of PRIUM, a medical intervention company specializing in managing chronic pain and the prescription drug issues surrounding it.
Speaking at 9:45 a.m., Pew will highlight the medical marijuana legalization landscape and its implications for workers’ compensation. He will discuss marijuana’s active ingredients, potential medical uses, various delivery methods, and the medical community’s views on using medical marijuana instead of opioids to manage pain. The dissonance between federal and state laws and how legal medical marijuana fits into a drug-free work place will be considered. Pew will also suggest strategies that payers and physicians can implement to manage medical marijuana within workers’ compensation programs.
In addition, MEWCA’s Quarterly Membership Meeting will feature an in-depth look at the state’s new medical marijuana law. Commissioner Ken Peterson of the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry, Assistant Commissioner Manny Munson-Regala with the Minnesota Department of Health, and Phil Moosbrugger with the state Department of Commerce are panelists in this session, which is moderated by Jeremy Estenson, director of government relations for Stinson Leonard Street. Being held at the Sugar Lake Lodge in Cohasset, Minnesota, the meeting runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 12.
