CarePoint Health Foundation, Inc. Awarded $375,000 Grant for Hudson County Residents Impacted by Superstorm Sandy

JERSEY CITY, N.J.--()--The CarePoint Health Foundation received last week a federal Social Services Block Grant dedicated to expanding behavioral health screenings for individuals impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

The $375,000 grant is the largest grant that the state awarded in this competition. The funding will support the screening of 15,000 individuals in the Hudson County community as they continue to recover from the emotional stresses of Superstorm Sandy.

“CarePoint Health is a community-based foundation, and we are certain that this grant will allow us to further expand and enhance the strong behavioral services that we currently provide for our residents,” said Paula Nevoso, Vice President of CarePoint Health Foundation.

The grant is part of the $1.2 million that the state provided last week for behavioral health screenings, in addition to the $2.2 million awarded to various community hospitals and health centers last spring. To date, over $3.4 million in funding has been granted to support the behavioral health screenings of over 83,000 individuals.

“We are very excited to receive this grant, as we are confident that it will allow us to make a big impact on the Hudson County residents we serve who have been suffering from the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy,” said Dr. Mark Spektor, CEO, CarePoint Health – Bayonne Medical Center.

The screenings will begin in September and will be offered in emergency rooms at Bayonne Medical Center, Christ Hospital Center, and Hoboken University Medical Center.

This is the first grant that the CarePoint Health Foundation has secured for its entire system, and the foundation continues to work closely with the state on several other initiatives.
