Kumon Math & Reading Centers Expand into Reno Market

World’s Largest After-School Program Now Available to Thousands of Children in Washoe County

TEANECK, N.J.--()--Kumon, the world’s largest after-school enrichment program, will open two new learning centers for the first time ever in Reno, Nev., this month. Outside of Reno, there are ten Kumon Math & Reading Centers in Nevada, all of which are located within the Las Vegas area. Thousands of Reno, Nev., parents will now have access to nearby Kumon learning centers for their pre-school to high school aged children.

“Before expanding into this market, our nearest Kumon center to Reno was nearly 80 miles away,” said Joe Nativo, chief financial officer at Kumon North America. “We are excited to bring the opportunity to study the Kumon method of learning to more than 10,000 children in the Reno community.”

In the United States, there are more than 265,000 students studying at Kumon’s 1,492 independently owned and operated learning centers. The number of Kumon centers in the U.S. has grown by more than 70 percent in the last 20 years. Enrollment in U.S. Kumon centers has seen a 194 percent growth since 2002, with a 78 percent increase in average enrollment per center during the past decade.

Kumon’s individualized approach to learning allows students to progress at their own pace. Students complete daily assignments that take about 30 minutes per subject – in two sessions a week at the Kumon center, and the other five at home. More than half of Kumon students study material above their school grade level.
