BRUSSELS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Accenture (NYSE:ACN) has been awarded a one-year contract to help the Cabinet of the State Secretary for Civil Services and Modernisation of Public Services and Federal Public Service for Information and Communications Technology (Fedict) create a strategic information plan to improve government IT systems.
Fedict defines and implements the federal e-government strategy, helping federal public services improve portfolios and tailor them to meet the needs of the general public, businesses and civil servants. The IT strategy is part of the government’s continuing efforts to reduce costs and improve citizen services.

The strategic Information plan that Accenture will deliver will challenge all institutions to share applications, investments and experiences. Accenture will review all aspects of the communications and IT functions across 32 agencies in the federal government to identify projects, opportunities and estimated costs for a comprehensive strategic plan. The project will include:
- Developing and understanding the three-year IT strategy for each organization.
- Identifying areas for increased collaboration, within the federal government, by examining current and future portfolio needs across all agencies.
- Creating a roadmap to help Fedict bridge gaps between current and future plans.

To determine citizens’ perceptions of digital government, Accenture surveyed 5,000 people in 10 countries, including Norway, Germany and the United Kingdom. The survey found that the majority of respondents (81 percent) would like their government to provide more services through digital channels and most, 64 percent, would like to use social media to engage with government.
Accenture’s previous work with the Belgian government includes the modernization of the Federal Public Services’ finance system (Coperfin Reform) and implementing a biometric identification system within the prison system.
