SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Do you know anyone who could use an extra $10,000 to Pay it Forward and continue the cycle of good?
To celebrate its 100th anniversary as an iconic American brand, Chicken of the Sea has been spending 2014 by awarding 100 individuals and nonprofit organizations $10,000 each to help empower them to continue doing good — and now it’s your last chance to help award the final 10.
Through Sept. 1, seafood fans are encouraged to visit http://chickenofthesea.com/100/gratitude-awards to nominate a community-minded friend or group to receive a $10,000 Gratitude Award to help them continue the cycle of good. Chicken of the Sea is looking back by paying it forward in 2014 in celebration of its 100th anniversary with its “Chicken of the Sea: 100 Years of Good” campaign.
As a way of thanking Americans for making it a mealtime staple, the San Diego-based company is investing $1 million in individuals, nonprofits and grassroots organizations across America whose mission it is to do good.
“This has been an amazing Centennial celebration for Chicken of the Sea, and now the clock is ticking for seafood fans to help us find the last of our 10 Gratitude Award recipients,” said Chicken of the Sea Senior VP of Marketing Christie Fleming. “Everybody knows someone who is striving to make a difference in their community. No matter how small their footprint may be, we are looking for people and organizations who can take this money, Pay it Forward, and continue doing good.
“We are asking for help in recognizing everyday American heroes involved in community work so we can empower them to continue their worthwhile efforts,” Fleming said. “There is no better way for us to celebrate our 100th birthday. We see this as an outgrowth of our long-term corporate culture of giving back.”
Chicken of the Sea is awarding the 100 Gratitude Awards during its 56-city, nationwide Great American Gratitude Tour, hosted by its iconic blonde Mermaid, “Catalina,” from the Chicken of the Sea label. The brand kicked off its Centennial celebration in January by giving out a handful of Gratitude Awards on a national basis (visit http://chickenofthesea.com/100/award-recipients to view all award recipients thus far):
- Chicago-based Team Red, White and Blue
- Owasso, Okla.,-based Folds of Honor
- Tinton Falls, N.J.,-based Holiday Express
The tour itself then launched in March in San Diego and will wrap up on Labor Day in Boston. Chicken of the Sea: 100 Years of Good is one of the largest, most comprehensive Pay it Forward initiatives in consumer packaged goods history. The 12-month effort combines commemorative packaging, promotions and retailer programs with a six-month, nationwide promotional tour commemorating the brand’s Centennial anniversary.
