Research and Markets: World FTTx Market 1H 2014

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/c8ch4z/world_fttx_market) has announced the addition of the "World FTTx Market 1H 2014" directory to their offering.

It is important to note that, depending on the topology of their network (in particular the number of households per final node), cable operators don't always expand the fibre optic part of the infrastructure. In that case, the implementation of DOCSIS 3.0 equipment is enough ensures that end users will benefit from 30 Mbps or higher speed rates.

For information, we have taken into account the following definitions:

- VDSL includes Fiber To The Node + VDSL and VDSL2 technologies

- FTTH/B stands for Fiber To The Home and Fiber To The Building

- FTTx/D3.0 stands several architectures, depending on cablecos networks' topology. It corresponds to coaxial based networks where the fiber optic is either deployed until a point generally located before the building, and/or Docsis 3.0 standard has been implemented in the central node of the cable operators' networks to enable the provision of higher speed rates.

Regarding Forecasts to 2018, our methodology takes into account several assumptions, for which data are specific to each country analysed:

Country features

Such information as urbanisation, state policy and consumer demand are of major importance for determining the potential of FTTH and the number of FTTH/B subscribers per country in a few years.

Urbanisation means level of concentration and potential coverage as well as percentage of the population living in MDU : we consider that FTTH/B deployments will first mainly concern dense areas and areas where there are more vertical habitations. For instance in Europe, one indicator is the number of nuts5 areas, which are areas where population density is often more than 500 inhabitants per kmĀ².

Access network topology

Apart from demographic indicators and from national/public initiatives, physical elements are also to be taken into account by operators when considering new deployemnts, and by analysts when trying to estimate data markets. Access network topology means the current situation of the copper lines and the geograpphy of MDF (Main Distribution Frame) and Street Cabinet across one country.

Players' strategy

The strategy of operators is linked to the development of Broadband throughout their country: concretely, in countries where Broadband market is highly developed, operators will be more inclined to deploy FTTx in order to keep and increase their subscribers figures or maintain/ increase their market shares (incumbents).
