PITTSBURGH--()--DynaVox Systems, LLC (DynaVox), creators of Boardmaker, the leading symbol-adapted special education software for assisting individuals with overcoming their speech, language and learning challenges, introduces Boardmaker Online. Designed for special needs educators, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), assistive technology specialists and parents, Boardmaker Online is a new, comprehensive solution for creating and managing special education instruction.

For more than 20 years, educators and therapists have used Boardmaker software to create high-quality, symbol-based learning materials to help students with special needs succeed. Building on the success of Boardmaker, the new online tool manages and delivers student instruction in one, easy-to-access system. Boardmaker Online enables users to quickly find, create, organize and deliver materials, making time spent with each student more efficient and productive. The personalized learning system also provides integrated data tracking and allows educators to measure their students’ progress toward academic, language, social and behavioral goals.

“Boardmaker Online reduces the number of apps and therapy materials special education professionals must collect and implement in order to work with students with diverse learning needs,” said Bob Cunningham, chief strategy and clinical officer at DynaVox. “We designed a system that makes it easy for teachers and special education professionals to individualize and assign educational activities, track progress and assess student outcomes, while maintaining the quality and reliability of Boardmaker.”

The comprehensive learning system not only tracks and measures results, but also delivers standards-aligned instruction that can easily be tailored for each student. With Boardmaker Online, special education professionals can easily alter text, visuals, learning prompts and accessibility according to an individual’s needs. The system allows users to take advantage of their existing copy of the highly-acclaimed Boardmaker software, and starting this fall they will also be able to create symbol-adapted schedules, calendars, books and educational activities online without having to install software or carry their Boardmaker disk with them.

“As a speech-language pathologist, I am so excited about this new program,” said Terri Porter. “I appreciate the ability to compile all of my students and their goals in one place, and the visual schedules will be extremely helpful to my students with autism spectrum disorder, who need to check off each activity as they go.”

From parents to therapists to large school districts, Boardmaker Online meets the needs of a diverse range of users by offering Personal, Professional and District subscriptions. A range of Professional Development options are available, from weekly free, live webinars to comprehensive in-person staff training and “train the trainer” style sessions. This versatile system can be used in a variety of learning environments and can easily transition between the classroom and home. Students and instructors can access content from a web browser on both Macs and PCs, and this fall, a free Student Center app will allow access from an iPad.
