Ulmer & Berne Adds Three Attorneys in Chicago

CHICAGO--()--Ulmer & Berne LLP announces the addition of partners Jeffrey Blumberg and Scott Rogers, and associate Stephen Gardner to its Chicago office. Mr. Blumberg and Mr. Gardner are financial services attorneys, while Mr. Rogers practices in the area of intellectual property.

Mr. Blumberg concentrates his practice on investment management law, counseling clients on regulatory, organizational, structural and business matters for a variety of registered and unregistered money managers, including hedge fund managers, investment advisers, broker-dealers, commodity trading advisors, and commodity pool operators. Prior to his legal career, he spent seven years working in the financial services industry with one of the largest independent financial services firms in the Chicagoland area, where he was a registered principal for the firm’s broker-dealer office and acted as the internal compliance officer for the firm. Mr. Blumberg is a guest lecturer at the Northwestern University School of Law and frequently speaks at industry conferences on topics relating to hedge funds and registered investment advisers. He earned his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Mr. Rogers has substantial experience representing clients in both domestic and international trademark and copyright matters. He is skilled in the prosecution of trademark and copyright applications as well as in the enforcement of intellectual property rights. Mr. Rogers’ extensive knowledge of intellectual property law also extends to the protection of trade dress, trade secrets, non-competition agreements, unfair competition, deceptive trade practices, and the licensing of intellectual property. Mr. Rogers is the former Vice President and General Counsel of Ty Inc., best-known as the creator of Beanie Babies® plush toys. In that capacity, he was responsible for establishing and protecting a multibillion-dollar trademark and copyright portfolio in the face of many challenges presented by counterfeiters, infringers, copycats and others seeking to exploit the company’s intellectual property. Mr. Rogers earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his Masters from the University of Texas at Austin, and his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law.

Mr. Gardner assists financial services industry clients, primarily in litigation, regulatory, and compliance matters, including OCC and FTC enforcement proceedings, CFPB and FINRA investigations. His clients include banks, mortgage companies and credit card service organizations. Mr. Gardner earned his B.S. from Winthrop University and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
