Syniverse to Provide SoftBank Mobile with IPX Network Solution

Agreement marks first Syniverse IPX customer in Japan

TAMPA, Fla.--()--Syniverse today announced it has signed an agreement with SoftBank Mobile to provide them with Syniverse’s IPX Network Solution – the network backbone that makes LTE roaming possible – to deliver next-generation IP-based services to SoftBank customers. The agreement provides a seamless end-to-end environment for SoftBank Mobile to deliver interoperable LTE and 4G services, and it represents Syniverse’s first IPX customer in Japan.

“Our customers increasingly expect the latest mobile services, including LTE, with the highest level of quality anywhere, any time,” said Shigeyasu Suenaga, Director, International Service, SoftBank Mobile. “Working with Syniverse ensures we deliver on these expectations and provides our customers the highest-quality experiences as they take advantage of everything LTE has to offer.”

With the world’s third-largest economy and more than 135 million mobile users, Japan is a critical market for the next-generation mobile services that IPX enables. According to estimates by eMarketer, the number of smartphone users in Japan is increasing quickly, rising from 27 percent in 2012 to 41 percent in 2013, and it is projected to jump to 60 percent by this year.

“We’re honored to be selected by SoftBank Mobile to provide the IPX backbone that makes LTE interoperability possible, and to expand on our long-term relationship,” said Morten Brøgger, Chief Sales Officer, Syniverse. “Syniverse’s 25-plus years of experience in bridging the mobile ecosystem gives us unmatched insight into the potential unknowns that come with interoperability between new technologies.”

Syniverse’s IPX Network Solution provides a carrier-grade connection to the company’s all-IP network that currently serves nearly 100 mobile service providers worldwide. Offering one-stop access to Syniverse’s full suite of mobile solutions and serving as a core component of the company’s LTE solution portfolio, the Syniverse IPX Network Solution provides a one-connection-to-multiple-services approach that aims to lower costs and boost operational efficiencies by reducing the number of network connections a mobile service provider must manage.

The agreement with SoftBank builds on Syniverse’s IPX momentum. The Syniverse IPX has been a critical tool in helping mobile operators conduct end-to-end LTE roaming trials and commercial launches around the globe as they migrate to 4G. To make connecting to the IPX easier and more cost-effective for mobile network operators, Syniverse added to its global points of presence (POPs) in locations with the implementation of POPs in Frankfurt, Germany, and Marseille, France, increasing its worldwide total to 18. Also in 2013, the company received a Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award for its use of IPX to enhance network efficiency through improved connectivity and visibility with Bahamas Telecommunications Company.
