LONG BEACH, Calif.--()--Today Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, and Cirra Systems, developer of the Tavlo Restaurant Management System, announced that Feldman’s Deli of Salt Lake City, Utah, has successfully deployed the Tavlo RMS to support tableside ordering from mobile devices, streamlining wait staff and kitchen operations while increasing sales volume and revenue.

Feldman’s is an award-winning deli that offers traditional Jewish and Old World European specialties in its full-service dining room and bustling take-out business. With inefficiencies limiting staff productivity, co-owner Michael Feldman turned to Tavlo RMS as the most cost-effective solution for his business. Tavlo integrates a POS system, website, online ordering, CRM tools and employee timekeeping with a web-based interface that runs from any browser on any device: kiosk, laptop, tablet or phone. Tavlo was designed by a former Apple engineer, with an elegant interface that required less than thirty minutes of training for Feldman’s employees to become proficient with the system. At the heart of the Tavlo RMS is the Epson OmniLink™ TM-T88V-DT smart printer—which combines a thermal printer, embedded processor and print server in a single, retail-hardened unit. OmniLink has the processing power to run as a complete POS station, connecting a touch screen, cash drawer and other peripherals.

As Feldman’s wait staff capture tableside orders on mobile devices, Tavlo cloud servers initiate and direct print jobs to the Epson OmniLink or through it to the Epson TM-U220 kitchen printer, speeding service transactions at every step. Epson’s ePOS-Print and ePOS-Device technology allows OmniLink to support printing from cloud servers as well as connection to POS peripherals—capabilities that enabled Cirra to expand the feature set of the Tavlo solution. “With OmniLink as the core of Tavlo, we can harness the power of cloud computing to deliver the managed services restaurants need without software customization,” said Jim Ngo, president of Cirra Systems.

“With Tavlo RMS, Cirra Systems has the potential to transform service in the restaurant space,” said Tom Kettell, manager of North American sales for Epson’s Business Systems Division. “Tavlo delivers managed services through a simple, browser-based interface, so restaurants can focus on service and growth, not technology issues.”

Since the rollout of Tavlo in May 2014, Feldman’s owners and staff give high marks to the mobile tableside-ordering feature, citing increased efficiency and more time to spend with customers. On the first day of use, a 3-waiter crew rang up a record-breaking $2,000 in tablet-based sales during the 4-hour lunch shift, an accomplishment the owners attribute to increased server volume and add-ons that had often gone uncharged before. “Tavlo RMS has significantly improved our kitchen operations and simplified customer service,” said Michael Feldman, co-owner, Feldman’s Deli. “Tavlo has saved us time and resources and it’s been a great fit for our business.”

Feldman looks forward to integrating Tavlo's web capabilities to generate additional revenue. The restaurant plans to build a website using Tavlo’s visual editing tools and design templates. When a change is made to any item in the POS, the change is automatically reflected in the website.

When payment is taken for an online order, Tavlo sends the order directly to the kitchen for order preparation. Chef and co-owner, Janet Feldman, cites less traffic in the kitchen as a big advantage. The servers agreed, saying "There used to be a lot of anxiety. Everybody is happier now."
