Research and Markets: UK Household Furniture Market Report 2014-2018

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/xds3lb/household) has announced the addition of the "Household Furniture Market Report 2014" report to their offering.

This Market Report analyses the UK household furniture industry. In 2013, total market value increased by 2.4%, representing a third consecutive year of growth.

Growth across all sectors is primarily attributable to the UK housing market. There were an increasing number of residential property transactions in 2013, partially because of greater financial security and rising house prices, and also because of the introduction of the Government's Help to Buy scheme in April. The former has encouraged people already on the property ladder to move, which, in turn, encouraged them to purchase new furniture for the new house and purchase big ticket items like fitted bathrooms prior to moving in to prevent disruption during installation. The latter has reduced the size of property deposits for first-time buyers. This is particularly encouraging for the household furniture market because these consumers often need to buy new furniture for the entire property, significantly contributing to total market value.

Yet a variety of factors are also threatening the market for household furniture. Politically, amendments to copyright law have severely damaged the market for replicas of designer furniture. This could prove particularly damaging in a market that is already overly competitive and reliant on promotions. Moreover, given decreasing unemployment, it is likely that the Bank of England (BoE) will raise the base rate of interest from 0.5% at some point in the next 5 years. This will negatively affect the fragile housing market as mortgages become more expensive. Given the economic environment, then, forecasts are difficult. Based on the assumption that interest rates will rise in 2016, a market growth of 1.7% is predicted between 2014 and 2018.
