BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--()--HealthTrust, a Parallon affiliate, today announced the appointment of Kent Petty as chief information officer (CIO). Petty most recently served as system vice president and CIO at Wellmont Health System where he developed and implemented a Health Information Technology strategic plan for the multifacility, multistate health system. Petty will report directly to Ed Jones, HealthTrust’s president and CEO.

In making the announcement, Jones stated, “Kent’s impressive background—with extensive healthcare and corporate technology experience that includes developing tools to turn an organization’s clinical, financial and operational data into actionable intelligence—makes him the ideal executive to lead strategic design and implementation of HealthTrust’s information technology services.”

Petty predicts the use of spend analytics and healthcare informatics is going to be extremely important for providers. “The good news is: hospital leaders are fully engaged. I’m excited to join HealthTrust and leverage my background and experience in support of our clients’ migration to value-based care,” Petty added.

With more than 25 years of leadership experience in technology design, development and support, Petty has worked for Fortune 500 companies, including Marriott International, HCR ManorCare, American Medical Laboratories and PriceWaterhouseCoopers as well as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. While at Marriott International, he led the development of decision support systems. During his tenure at Wellmont Health System, Petty helped to re-engineer analytics by leveraging complex data to enable hospital leadership to identify genuine opportunities for change and translating those specific results into overall best practices.

For the past 29 years, Petty has served in the active and reserve components of the U.S. Navy. He is a Naval intelligence officer and qualified as an information dominance warfare officer. In 2013, Commander Petty deployed to Afghanistan where he served as the deputy director of the Joint Intelligence Operations Center. There, he led the analytical production of operational and strategic intelligence for the International Security Assistance Force. Petty holds a bachelor’s degree in decision sciences from George Mason University and has completed his master’s certification in strategic intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College.
