Leading Restaurants and Bars Rush to Reserve .REST and .BAR Domains Before the General Public

With Only One Week Before .REST and .BAR Domains Are Publicly Available, Many High Profile Restaurants, Bars and Brands Have Staked Their Claims on Generic Top Level Domains Designed for the Restaurant Industry

MEXICO CITY--()--Beginning on June 11th, 2014, restaurants and bars began reserving new premium generic top level domains (gTLDs) .REST (dot-rest) and .BAR (dot-bar) before the domains are released to the general public on July 14, 2014.

Among the many leading restaurants, bars and nightclubs that put in bids to own their .REST or .BAR domain were known personalities like Joel Robuchon and Rick Bayless; restaurants such as Geranium in Denmark, Grub in Los Angeles, Mocoto in Brazil, EspaiSucre in Barcelona, Casellula in New York City; and brands like Smith and Wollensky, Harry’s Bar, Wynn Resorts and Moet Henessy.

Many premium domains are available until July 10, 2014, during the domains’ “land rush” period wherein early applicants, restaurants, bars, domain investors and early adopters have a much larger chance to reserve the domains in high demand and that are the most desirable.

Punto 2012, a Mexico-based company, released .REST and .BAR in order to enable the food and beverage industry, including restaurants, bars, guides, delivery services, critics, and others, to be found by their existing and potential customers online. Developed and implemented by restaurant professionals for restaurant professionals, the .REST and .BAR domains are online neighborhoods that better categorize the industry and offers more meaningful, accurate, shorter and simpler internet addresses for restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.

“With only a week left, we are very pleased by the industry’s response to .REST and .BAR,” said Aaron Grego, CEO of Punto 2012. “Restaurants and bars are embracing these domains because they finally have an opportunity to define who they are and what they do. These domains will enable them to be found by their customers and get the exposure they need to be successful.”

The “land rush” period closes on July 10, 2014, so restaurants and bars still have a limited time to stake their claim in their new global online neighborhood. Beginning July 14, 2014, .REST and .BAR domains will enter the “general availability” phase wherein, domains are bought on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A thorough list of recommended high-value available keywords is published at the www.landrush.rest and www.landrush.bar websites, and any of these new domain names, as well as many others can be registered with Domain Name Registrars such as Godaddy, Name.com and 101domain.com amongst others.
