DOTHAN, Ala.--()--2nd & Charles’ newest store had an exciting celebration to mark the grand opening of their Dothan location last week.

Hundreds of local residents enjoyed the festivities, with many receiving free 2nd & Charles tote bags. There were giveaways and prizes including 2nd & Charles gift cards and store vouchers, as well as a Crosley record player and a Nook HD+.

Kids enjoyed free face painting and a special photo opportunity with Curious George, story time, and other fun activities for the kids throughout the day.

Now area children can also enjoy Family Fun Camp during the month of July; a refreshing way to help parents provide their children with creative outlets for learning during the summer break.

“2nd & Charles is focused on ways to support the Dothan community,” said Jeff Skipper, Vice President of Marketing at 2nd & Charles. “Our Family Fun Camp is designed to inspire children to use their imaginations and discover that reading is fun.”

Parents should put Family Fun Camp on every July must-do list. Four different themes, each with associated books, will keep the activities fresh and encourage repeat visitation.

July 5th, 2014: “Summer Adventure Saturday”

  • Search the store for reasons to read with a scavenger hunt, hear tall tales of adventure during story time, and participate in activities designed to introduce kids to the wonders of reading.

July 12th, 2014: “Under the Sea Adventure”

  • Every little girl dreams of being a mermaid and every little boy dreams of being a pirate. Join the fun to make mermaid crowns and pirate captain’s hats, participate in the undersea story time, make sand castle art, and learn fun pirate lingo.

July 19th, 2014: “Superhero Saturday”

  • Save the world from certain destruction and tap into your inner powers by creating your own top-secret superhero identity, crafting superhero cuffs as a part of your costume, and participating in crime-fighting games.

July 26th, 2014: Celebrate “Harry Potter’s Birthday”

  • Are you a Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin? Come dressed in your favorite Hogwart’s school attire and find out by attending our sorting hat ceremony. Then, be tested on your wizardry knowledge, and earn your very own wand.

“Dothan residents are enjoying treasure hunting at 2nd & Charles,” said Patricia Hines, General Manager of the Dothan 2nd & Charles. “We offer a unique and easy way to reuse and recycle old books, audio books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray, video games, game systems, vinyl records, comic books, iPods and iPads, eReaders, and more by offering cash or store credit for gently used items.”

Customers wishing to sell used items can check them in upon entering the store. While their merchandise is being evaluated, they can shop the expansive selection of new and gently used items. Once trade-ins are processed, customers can choose to redeem their items for cash or store credit. Beyond low prices, 2nd & Charles also has sale bins with items priced at $1, $2 or $3 – and even baskets where books are entirely free.
