SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CCEEB) is pleased to announce that Senator Fran Pavley is the recipient of the 2014 Edmund G. “Pat” Brown Award. The award, named on behalf of CCEEB’s founding chairman, honors an individual or organization whose accomplishments most exemplify the spirit of environmental and economic balance.
CCEEB chose Senator Pavley as the 2014 award winner because of her efforts to protect the environment in a way that allows for economic development and a strong economy.
“The Senator has made unparalleled contributions to the advancement of climate change solutions that are both ambitious and achievable. That’s why you can see her influence not just in Sacramento, but in D.C. as well,” said Gerald Secundy, CCEEB president. “Never one to back down from tough goals and standards, Senator Pavley also understands that businesses need the means to comply.”
Throughout her career as a legislator, Senator Pavley has been a leader in the movement to advance climate change solutions at the state level and to find creative ways to improve air quality. In 2002, she authored a bill limiting greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and light trucks, which became the model for today’s national standards. In 2006, she co-authored AB 32, a comprehensive framework for cutting GHG emissions across most of the California economy. In 2013, she co-authored legislation to invest $2 billion in successful air quality, clean vehicle and fuel technology programs.
"Californian's will long remember Senator Pavley's contributions to the economic well being and environmental quality of this great state," said Wally McGuire, CCEEB Chairman.
In 2011, Senator Pavley authored a bill meant to improve California’s business climate by implementing regulatory reform. This law requires agencies to rigorously assess the economic impacts and benefits of major regulations before they are adopted.
Previous recipients of the Pat Brown Award include Air Resources Board Chairman Mary Nichols, Tom Graft from Environmental Defense Fund, Donald Bren, and Governor Schwarzenegger with Speaker Nuñez and pro Tem Perata.
CCEEB is a coalition of business, labor and public leaders that advances strategies for a sound economy and a healthy environment. CCEEB will honor Senator Pavley at an award ceremony on Tuesday, July 15.
