NANJING, China--()--The official theme song of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) was released today to mark the 50-day countdown until the Games begin on 16th August. The official theme song “Dreams Never End” was chosen from a competition that went on for six months and involved more than 5,000 participants. Amateur and professional musicians of all ages and nationalities took part in the song competition.

The winning song, originally entitled “Endless Dreams,” was written by Bian Liu-nian, a composer and musical director for the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Bian was born in Nanjing and is honored to create the theme song for the coming YOG taking place in his hometown. The song embodies the spirit of the Games and the city of Nanjing itself. Lyrics such as “Wake up, fly in the sky, because our dreams never die” creatively express the Games’ focus on the dreams of young people. The song features Chinese traditional musical elements combined with pop music while the lyrics and rhythm vividly convey Nanjing’s passionate spirit.

In order to ensure the song’s appeal to youth, young people were invited to serve as the judges at the theme song competition. Young people around the world will be encouraged to create their own versions of the theme song in order to learn from each other and share musical cultures by uploading the songs on Facebook and YouTube. The theme song expresses youthful passion for a bright future and an outstanding YOG. It is hoped that all the young people who play a part in the competition can spread the spirit of the YOG to every corner of the world.

The theme song for the Virtual Torch Relay, “YOG Hugs” was also introduced the same day as the YOG theme song. As of the day of the announcement, more than 30 million people had downloaded the Virtual Torch Relay APP. The Nanjing 2014 Virtual Torch Relay APP supports 16 languages and can be downloaded via iOS and Android software and on the official website at www.nanjing2014.org.
