An additional 29 Dakshana Scholars were successful in their 2nd JEE attempt and are on the Merit List. 196 Dakshana Scholars accepted by IIT in 2014!
A total of 259 Dakshana Scholars were prepped for free by Dakshana for two years. Of these 167 qualified in the JEE merit list. Dakshana’s topper was Kaushal Agarwal from Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh. Kaushal secured a JEE All-India rank of 181. Kaushal was intensively coached for the JEE by Dakshana’s coaching partner, TIME, at JNV Rangareddy (Hyderabad) from 2012-14. This year, Dakshana had six scholars in the Top 1000 JEE ranks:

Around 1,356,000 students attempted the JEE this year. Dakshana had a hit rate of 64.4% - with 167 of the 259 scholars being selected. “The credit goes to our CEO Colonel Sharma, our COO Sharmila Pai, the entire Dakshana Pune based team, our volunteers, our donors and our excellent coaching partners like Resonance and T.I.M.E. We remain focused on expanding the program to try to attain our stretch goal of 2020 in 2020 i.e. sending 2020 Dakshana Scholars to the IITs in the year 2020,” said Mohnish Pabrai, Dakshana’s founder.
The 29 scholars who re-took the JEE did not get any additional support from Dakshana or the JNV system for their 2nd attempt. They did, however, have the benefit of 2-years of intensive JEE coaching provided free of cost in partnership with the JNV system for their first attempt. We are excited about their results – it further demonstrates the hidden talent among Dakshana Scholars. 8 of them were coached by one of Dakshana’s most valuable well-wishers – Super 30! Anand Kumar has been an avid supporter of Dakshana and he takes pride in training Dakshana scholars who wish to reappear for the JEE.
Dakshana is a charitable foundation that began operations in India in 2007. The foundation has a strong relationship and Memorandum of Understanding with the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya system (JNVs) whereby Dakshana screens and selects the most promising JNV students for intensive preparation and coaching for the JEE. The 500+ JNVs nationwide graduate over 40,000 students every year.
Historically, only a small handful of them have made it to IIT. The Dakshana-JNV partnership is all about creating a level playing field where brilliant students from rural, impoverished families can reach their full potential. Today, the 1000+ Dakshana alums in various parts of the world are a strong force to reckon with. Dakshana’s first two batches have graduated from the IITs and NITs. Many are employed by leading Indian companies and multinationals. Some are pursuing graduate studies overseas.
Dakshana was founded by Mr. Mohnish Pabrai and his spouse, Ms. Harina Kapoor. Dakshana is focused on providing world-class education opportunities for exceptionally gifted children from impoverished rural backgrounds in India. Every Dakshana Scholar who gets a world-class education successfully breaks the shackles of poverty for his entire family - permanently.
