OT Launches Site to Educate U.S. Financial Institutions and Consumers about EMV Chip Cards

CHANTILLY, Va.--()--Oberthur Technologies (OT), the leading global supplier of EMV products and services, today announced the launch of its new EMV website (www.oberthur.com/emv) to educate U.S. financial institutions and consumers about EMV chip cards in the wake of the recent Target, Neiman Marcus and Michael’s data breaches.

The U.S. remains an international target for payment card hackers who seek the point of least resistance as much of the world is well advanced in the migration to EMV. EMV, a global interoperability standard, stores the account holder’s information on a computer chip and creates a unique encrypted code – or digital signature – for each transaction that cannot be reused, enhancing card security versus standard magnetic stripe cards.

“This is a crucial time in the U.S. payment industry, and OT is here to help ease the transition for financial institutions and consumers. OT’s new website leverages our understanding of EMV, global experience and expertise as a trusted partner with an excellent track record of successful migrations,” said Martin Ferenczi, president for North America at OT, which has delivered EMV cards to 80 percent of the U.S.’s top issuers. With new state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly expanding capacity, OT is actively involved in more than 50 EMV projects for small, medium and large financial institutions in the U.S.

The new website addresses questions and concerns, like: How does EMV work? What is the case for EMV? And, how do I migrate from magstripe cards to EMV cards? OT’s informative website is an important resource for the U.S. payment industry and will continually be updated to reflect EMV progress in the U.S.
