LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the nation is outraged by the ongoing VA scandal, America Helping Heroes is launching the most vital campaign since the Civil Rights Movement.
Although the high rate of suicide, PTSD, and the growing population of homeless OEF/OIF Veterans has been widely publicized, it took the tragic deaths of veterans by the broken VA system for America to take notice.
”We cannot allow those who died waiting for care to die in vain. They rang the bell at a deafening level that begs immediate action,” says Angela Alegna, founder of America Helping Heroes and author of Coming Home Moving Forward – Obliterating the Seven Obstacles of Life After War (AB Publishing). “We must respect and honor their lives by doing what should have been done long ago and create an effective, honest system our heroes can rely on.”
Angela is rallying for such a system with The Coming Home Moving Forward Campaign. Based on the objectives from her book, she is taking her plan to Capitol Hill.
The unprecedented campaign calls for a bill to:
1) abolish pre-existing conditions,
2) enable automatic enrollment in the VA with a paperless, automated system of care and benefits,
3) provide 6 months automatic readjustment counseling for all returning combat veterans regardless of rank or experience in theater, and
4) guarantee access to the private medical sector during times of horrendous backlog.
In recent weeks, VA Secretary General Eric Shinseki has resigned, and Capitol Hill has proposed a few measures, but Alegna maintains the sinking ship that is the VA cannot be fixed one leak at a time and urges The Coming Home Moving Forward Campaign promotes a complete system of care and benefits for veterans without delays and denials.
“This is a defining moment in America’s history,” says Angela. “From the days of General George Washington to now, veterans have been left wanting. Let’s seize the moment and make the obvious changes that will make the ultimate difference. It is our moral responsibility to ensure our American heroes fully enjoy the American Dream they protect.”
