Research and Markets: UK Private Healthcare Market Report 2014

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/5h8qk2/private) has announced the addition of the "Private Healthcare Market Report 2014" report to their offering.

This Market Report analyses the private healthcare market in the UK, covering the following sectors: long-term care; acute medical care; psychiatric care; private medical insurance; and primary care. Private healthcare is either directly funded by patients or through their private medical insurance (PMI) policies. This report also covers public-sector healthcare contracted out to private providers.

During the decade prior to the economic downturn, the UK private healthcare market witnessed robust growth benefiting from an ageing population and the growing demand for health services, as well as an increase in public funding for the healthcare system and higher levels of National Health Service (NHS) outsourcing. However, the rate of growth slowed in 2009, as consumer spending was squeezed and public healthcare funding flatlined. The total UK private healthcare market grew by 3.9% and 1.4% in 2012 and 2013, respectively. The market is dominated by the long-term care sector, which accounted for 47.4% of total private healthcare revenues in 2013, followed by private acute medical care (22.1%) and psychiatric care (16%).

The private healthcare market in the UK is dominated by a number of major health care providers. Within the acute medical care sector, large hospital operators including the General Healthcare Group (GHG), Spire and HCA International are dominant players. Leading long-term care providers include Bupa, Care UK, Barchester Healthcare, Craegmoor Healthcare and Four Seasons.

Going forward, the UK private healthcare market is expected to benefit from the rising patient demand and treatment costs driven by the ageing population and more people suffering from long-term conditions. The market is forecast to grow by 2.6% and 2.3% in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Annual growth rates are expected to accelerate between 2016 and 2018, growing to 3.3% in the latter year. The long-term care sector will remain the largest sector within the private healthcare market.
