Kaplan University Maine Confers 290 Degrees at 2014 Summer Graduation Ceremony

Eliot Cutler delivers commencement address

PORTLAND, Maine--()--The 2014 Summer Commencement for Kaplan University’s Maine campuses was held today in Portland at the Merrill Auditorium where 290 students received their degrees. The graduates earned certificate, associate, bachelor or master degrees from Kaplan University’s Schools of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Information Technology.

Eliot Cutler delivered the keynote address.

“You are here today because you understand opportunity. You have seized it and have worked hard to create even greater opportunities for yourselves and your families. You are here today because you refused to accept things as they were. You leave here today with a degree and new skills and experiences that will impact your lives for years to come," Mr. Cutler told the graduates.

Eliot Cutler has worked both in the public and private sectors. He worked with Senator Ed Muskie to write the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. While working in the White House for the Office of Management and Budget he oversaw multibillion dollar budgets for agencies within Natural Resources. He was a strategist and lawyer for governments, business, and citizens groups. As an active entrepreneur and businessman, Cutler has helped start and manage successful businesses, served on the boards of directors of private and public companies and advised and managed private and public philanthropic organizations. Cutler is a graduate of Harvard College and the law school of Georgetown University.

Kaplan University Maine Campuses President Dr. Christopher Quinn witnessed the students’ hard work and dedication as they pursued their degrees.

"These graduates will immediately enhance the quality of Maine's workforce - they live in Maine and the vast majority will stay in Maine as they pursue their careers," Quinn, said. "The impact on the Maine economy will be enduring as many of these graduates are parents of school age children. The value of their degrees earned will ultimately be "paid forward" as we know that the children of college graduates are much more likely to attend and graduate from college."
