KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Entrusted by the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Kaohsiung City Government built Kaohsiung Exhibition and Convention Center. The NT$3 billion construction is aimed at holding exhibitions by specific industries in southern Taiwan. Since the first exhibition planned for the center is the 2014 Taiwan International Boat Show, the architecture is designed to have an excellent space with 27 meter-high ceiling so that mega yachts can be placed and moored indoors for potential buyers to appreciate, test ride and write down the order.
Construction Office of the Kaohsiung City Public Works Bureau said Kaohsiung Exhibition and Convention Center is built on a land of some 4 hectares in Asia New Bay Area planned by the city government. At an excellent location on the east side of the Kaohsiung Harbor, the center is close to international tourist hotels, large shopping malls, harbor, international airport and Metro station with convenient transportation. And a planned light rail system will pass by the center in the future for people to visit exhibitions easily.
The streamlined architecture has become a landmark in the Kaohsiung Harbor area. To ensure the safe use of the building, Construction Office is conducting fire inspections and testing the performance of fire-fighting water cannons. Once the strength of fire source reaches fire judgment reference value for 30 consecutive seconds, the fire-fighting system will automatically calculate direction and angle and aim waterline at the fire source until the fire is extinguished.
Kaohsiung Exhibition Center is designed as a wide-span steel structure and both its spatial scale and structural design have set a precedent in the country. General fire regulations are not applicable to the 189 meter-long, 50 meter-wide and 27 meter-high specifications of the South Hall, so the building is designed to equip with automatic sprinkler detect system to ensure fire safety.
Kaohsiung Exhibition Center has been issued its usage license and nominated for The International Awards for Livable Communities in 2013. The Kaohsiung City Government said the hosting of Taiwan International Boat Show will make the exhibition center a focus of attention.
