PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. and Marilyn Pamplin were honored for their achievements as business leaders at the 2014 Global Business Awards, presented by the Oregon Special Olympics. The Pamplins were recognized at a lunch and awards ceremony at the Portland Hilton and Executive Tower on May 14.

Robert B. Pamplin Jr. is a businessman, philanthropist, author, historical preservationist, farmer and educator. As chairman, president and CEO of R.B. Pamplin Corporation, his business interests include media, textiles, construction and agriculture. He has authored 14 books and earned eight degrees (including two doctorates), in business administration, economics, accounting, education and theology.
Dr. Pamplin has received many honorary degrees and notable national awards, including America’s Outstanding Individual Philanthropist by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Volunteers of America’s National Volunteer of the Year, Beta Gamma Sigma International’s Business Achievement Award, the Distinguished Leadership Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, the National Caring Award from the Caring Institute, the Herman W. Lay Memorial Award for entrepreneurship and the Woodrow Wilson Center Award for corporate citizenship. In Oregon, he has received the Governor’s Arts Award and the Governor’s Gold Award and has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum and Portland First Citizen by the Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors.
Marilyn Pamplin, who graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in elementary education, has dedicated her life to improving the community around her. She has been president of the Junior League, the Parry Center for Children, the Children’s Charity Ball, the Parent Teacher Association and PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Additionally, she has served as an officer for the Christie School, Young Audiences, Infant Hearing Resources, the March of Dimes and Colonial Dames.
She has received many honors, including a White Rose award from the March of Dimes as a woman of achievement in Oregon, a Sustainer of the Year award from the Junior League, a Meritorious Service to Children award from the Parry Center for Children, and a leadership and philanthropy award from the Christie School Center for Children. Together with her husband, she received the Parent of the Year award from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and was named Philanthropist of the Year in Oregon by the National Society of Fundraising Executives.
In addition to their extensive philanthropic work, the Pamplins are committed to preserving sites, art and artifacts from the past. The Dr. and Mrs. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. International Collection of Art and History, which is among the most extensive private collections of fine art, collectibles and furniture in the U.S., encompasses more than 100,000 items of historical significance. The Pamplin Foundation, which Robert B. Pamplin Jr. chairs, also owns and operates Pamplin Historical Park and The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, an award-winning Civil War site in Virginia.
The Pamplins live in Lake Oswego, Oregon. They have two daughters, Amy Pamplin North and Anne Pamplin-Evenson.
