BUENA PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A tentative agreement has been reached between Grocery workers in Southern California, represented by United Food and Commercial Workers locals 8GS, 135, 324, 770, 1167, 1428 and 1442, and Ralph’s, Albertsons and Vons.
The agreement covers over 60,000 grocery workers throughout Southern California.
After a final marathon session of seven consecutive days and nights of back-to-back bargaining meetings between representatives of the UFCW locals and the corporations that own Ralph's, Albertsons and Vons and with the assistance of Federal Mediators, a tentative contract agreement has been reached.
A Federal Mediator joined the talks starting May 5th. Federal mediation has played a part in negotiations for each of the last three contracts.
No details of the agreement will be released until the Union members have had an opportunity to read, discuss and vote on the agreement.
The Local Unions are setting up meetings to allow the members to vote on the tentative agreement. When meeting sites are finalized the members will be notified of the dates, times and locations.
We will have our members vote to ratify the deal by the end of the month.
The Grocery Workers Contract expired on March 2nd.
A contract extension was reached on April 10, 2014 that secured members’ wages and benefits through May 11, 2014.
Members are currently in a day to day period of their contract extension. Wages and benefits remain uninterrupted in the day to day period.
Private hedge fund Cerberus, which owns Albertsons, recently made a tentative purchase of Safeway, the corporation that owns Vons and Pavilions. The deal could take as long as a year to finalize because it is subject to Federal anti-trust approval.
