SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Presidio Trust announced today that the Presidio Officers’ Club, San Francisco’s most historic building, will reopen to the public in September 2014 as a multifaceted cultural destination.
“The reopening of the Officers’ Club is a milestone for the Presidio Trust and the nation,” said Craig Middleton, Trust Executive Director. “The Officers’ Club will provide visitors with a meaningful, welcoming, and engaging look into the Presidio’s rich history and future aspirations.”
The Officers’ Club is located where Spanish colonists first established their presence in what would become San Francisco, creating a military post that would eventually become the most significant U.S. Army post in the American West. Across decades and through ten wars, the Officers’ Club held a special place in the hearts of thousands of servicemen who passed through the Presidio.
The new Officers’ Club will honor this past and help visitors establish a deep understanding of the Presidio’s vital role in San Francisco and world history through programs and exhibitions. Visitors will enjoy exceptional events including dances, live music, theater, films, and lectures. Classrooms will allow the Trust to offer quality educational programming for students K-12 tied to the California State curriculum. Interactive exhibits including a 4,000-sf Presidio Heritage Gallery will trace the Presidio’s fascinating past and current course as a unique national park site.
A state-of-the-art lab will allow archaeologists to study and store the Presidio’s historic artifacts and enable the community to observe archaeologists at work.
A destination restaurant, Arguello, led by Chef Traci Des Jardins, will serve Mexican food. By day, Arguello will serve a diverse range of visitor needs and by night will transform into a full-service restaurant with a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
New event spaces, the Ortega Ballroom with views of the San Francisco Bay and Hardie Courtyard, will be available to rent for family and business gatherings.
Admission to the Officers’ Club exhibitions and programs will be free, sponsored by the Presidio Trust.
