SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kabam, the leader in the Western world for free-to-play games for traditional players, and CJ E&M Netmarble (“CJ Netmarble”), the leading Korean digital entertainment company and number one mobile publisher in South Korea, today announced a strategic agreement for Kabam to exclusively publish an undisclosed title from CJ Netmarble for the Western market. Under the agreement, Kabam will be the exclusive provider of localization, marketing and live operations throughout North America and Europe. Terms of the deal are not disclosed.
The partnership with Kabam compliments the expansion of CJ Netmarble’s strategic presence in the Western market. CJ Netmarble has set up a dedicated gaming operation in the U.S. with the formation of CJ Games Global, whose office is based in San Francisco.
“Partnering with CJ Netmarble is a tremendous opportunity,” said Amit Ranade, President of Kabam Publishing. “Our mission is to introduce only the best games from Asian developers to the Western world, and this upcoming game is sure to delight new gamers in Western regions.”
As the dominant leader in mobile games in South Korea, CJ Netmarble has produced a host of chart topping mobile games including Monster Taming, Magu Magu and Race Cha-cha-cha from the Netmarble mobile portal.
“Kabam is a great partner for us on this project that we want to share with a new audience of Western gamers,” said Seungwon Lee, Global Strategy EVP of CJ Netmarble and CEO of CJ Games Global. “We know that Kabam has a proven track record of working with Asian companies so we embrace the opportunity to utilize their publishing infrastructure to meet our combined goals as we grow our business out West.”
CJ Netmarble is the latest partnership from the Kabam Worldwide Developers Fund. Started in 2013, the $50 million Worldwide Developer Fund enables third-party game developers in China, Japan and South Korea to take advantage of Kabam’s industry-leading monetization and marketing expertise to expand their games to North American and European markets.
Kabam has experienced massive growth since its founding as a games company a little more than four years ago. The company now has more than 800 employees in offices throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Kabam generated more than $360 million in revenue in 2013, a 100 percent growth over 2012, and predicts more than $550 million in revenue in 2014.
In addition to the project with Kabam, CJ Netmarble plans to publish a variety of mobile games in diverse genres for 2014. These games will be supported through CJ Games Global as the company expands its global market. CJ Netmarble recently secured $500 million investment from Tencent which will aid in the expansion of its mobile gaming business worldwide.
More details on the new project will be shared at a later date. Kabam and CJ Netmarble will work closely to deliver a high quality product with great core player experience and engagement.
