300 "Green" Buses to Operate During Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games

NANJING, China--()--As the start of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) draws nearer, a series of measures have been taken in order to achieve the organizers’ goal of a “Green YOG”. On May 16, a signing ceremony was held in Nanjing for an exclusive Nanjing 2014 YOG motor vehicle partner. At the ceremony, SAIC Motor officially signed on as a partner and sponsor to the Games and agreed to provide special clean technology vehicles to help the event lower its environmental impact and move toward more sustainable development.

Liu Yi-an, Standing Vice Secretary General of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (NYOGOC), expressed gratitude for the SAIC’s contribution to the Nanjing 2014 YOG and said the cooperation would help ensure the success of the event. The clean technology vehicles are perfectly aligned with the values of the Games and will go a long way toward assisting Nanjing in becoming a green city with low carbon emissions and sustainable development.

SAIC Motor is the largest auto group in China and has been dedicated to the research and production of green “new energy” cars. Zhou Lang-hui, the Vice President of SAIC Motor was present at the ceremony. He said SAIC Motor would sponsor the Games financially and contribute 1,000 vehicles of various types. All the vehicles provided will be used for support services during the Nanjing 2014 YOG. The “Sunwin Bus” provided by SAIC Motor uses clean technology that greatly reduces emissions. After the conclusion of the Nanjing 2014 YOG, the 300 Sunwin green buses will continue to be used for public transportation in Nanjing.

In addition to the new ‘green buses’, the Nanjing Metro offers convenient and rapid transportation for visitors while helping to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution. Bicycle rental kiosks are also available to the public around the city and are increasingly popular among young people. In the remaining days before the Games, Nanjing will continue to work hard to improve the city environment and atmosphere to give visitors the best and most enjoyable experience possible.
