Galen College of Nursing Announces New Online RN to BSN Program for Kentuckiana Students

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--()--Galen College of Nursing (www.galencollege.edu), a multi-campus and online educational institution based in Louisville, Ky., is launching a new online RN to BSN degree program in the summer of 2014. Designed to help new and working nurses advance their education to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare field, the Galen RN to BSN program offers an innovative curriculum with the aid of one of the most advanced learning platforms in educational use today.

“We are excited to add the new online RN to BSN to our nursing education programs after several years of work with healthcare experts and faculty to develop a highly customized, affordable and flexible curriculum,” said Mark A. Vogt, president of Galen College of Nursing. “Galen looks forward to helping not only those with associate degrees looking to take the next step in their careers, but also students who are earning their first nursing degree, develop into healthcare advocates and thought leaders.”

Galen’s program was developed to help the nursing workforce prepare for industry trends identified by the Institute of Medicine, which projects nurses will need to achieve a higher level of education for the rapidly changing healthcare landscape. To ensure the field is ready for this anticipated evolution, the Institute’s target is that 80 percent of the nursing workforce will hold at least a bachelor’s degree by 2020.

Galen’s RN to BSN offers highly interactive, content-rich courses and the unique ability to have a special area of focus. The first special area of focus offered will be “Leadership and Management” developed in partnership with Lee Cockerell, former executive vice president at The Walt Disney Company.

Other program features include:

  • Custom content, structure and format supported by video, real-time discussion and 3D graphics
  • Affordable, competitive tuition for new and existing students
  • An assigned Student Support Liaison to provide individualized assistance, similar to an on-campus experience
  • Mobile-friendly classes that allow students to access resources at home or on-the-go

Since 1989, Galen has dedicated significant resources solely to quality nursing education. The new RN to BSN program complements Galen College of Nursing’s current degree offerings at the Louisville campus, including ADN, LPN and LPN to ADN Bridge programs. With new program additions now and in the future, Galen can steward its students through every step of their career path.

The online program will first be available to residents of Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, and Ohio, with plans to expand into Texas and other states throughout 2015. Students will have the opportunity to register for the program during the six different enrollment periods offered throughout the year.
