National Public Interest Law Leader Todd Gaziano Named Executive Director of PLF’s New DC Center

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--()--Pacific Legal Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd F. Gaziano as Executive Director of PLF’s new DC Center and Senior Fellow in Constitutional Law.

Mr. Gaziano brings valuable experience from distinguished government jobs and leadership roles in promoting the freedom-based public interest legal movement. Prior to joining PLF, he served in the U.S. DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel, where he provided advice to the White House and four Attorneys General on constitutional matters, was a chief subcommittee counsel in the U.S. House of Representatives, and was the founding director of Heritage Foundation’s Center for Legal and Judicial Studies.

“Todd brings a wealth of experience and leadership to PLF as we launch our new DC Center,” said PLF President Robin L. Rivett. “He has a stellar reputation in his 22-year career in DC, and is well versed in many of PLF’s high-profile cases over the years. Todd’s a great addition to PLF’s team.”

For 17 years with Edwin Meese III, Gaziano worked to foster freedom-based public interest law organizations, increase collaboration between them, and improve their effectiveness. Among other contributions, he helped almost 100 advocates appearing before the Supreme Court prepare for their oral arguments.

“I have always been impressed with Pacific Legal Foundation’s focus and effectiveness in limiting government, and protecting private property rights, individual rights, free enterprise, and other constitutional liberties,” Gaziano said. “Naturally, I am very excited and honored to be asked to lead PLF’s new DC Center. I can’t think of another mission that is more worthy right now.”

Mr. Gaziano has been a frequent legal commentator in print, radio, broadcast, and cable TV programs, before congressional committees, and in many other public settings. From early 2008 to December, 2013, he also served as a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, where he reported on civil rights developments and conducted oversight hearings on and investigations of civil rights agencies. Gaziano also published numerous scholarly papers, articles, and op-eds on constitutional and legal reform topics.

“Todd Gaziano worked tirelessly for much of the past two decades to support and expand the impact of the freedom-based public interest law movement,” said former U.S. Attorney General Ed Meese. “Given my strong support for PLF going back to its founding 41 years ago, and my admiration of Todd’s capabilities, I think his appointment is an ideal way to increase PLF’s voice in the nation’s capital and attention to PLF’s priority issues.”

Mr. Gaziano is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, where he was selected as a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics. He clerked for the Honorable Edith H. Jones, Circuit Judge of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He is a member of the bar of the State of Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court, and other federal courts.
