CERRITOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CareMore Health System, a wholly owned subsidiary of WellPoint Inc., has named two people to senior leadership positions. Jason Barker will serve as president of the company’s Medicare health plans, while Vish Sankaran will serve as the company’s chief operations officer.
In his new role, Barker is responsible for CareMore’s products, growth and profitability. He became acquainted with CareMore while working as CEO of St Mary’s Hospital in California’s High Desert area from 2003 to 2010. More recently, he served as president and CEO of St. Vincent Health Care, Holy Rosary Healthcare, in Eastern Montana. With his provider background, Barker has significant experience in working collaboratively with hospitals and physicians, including on various payment models.
Sankaran is responsible for all of CareMore’s shared services operations, operational design and technology, including designing infrastructure for the company’s new business models. He is experienced in public-private collaborations, including exchanges. He was responsible for coordinating health IT implementation across 13 federal agencies while at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and has served as a senior advisor to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Most recently, he served as healthcare operations and information technology strategist for Baltimore-based Ayus Health LLC.
CareMore serves nearly 75,000 Medicare members in Virginia, California, Arizona and Nevada. The company is known for innovative programs that help those with certain health conditions, including congestive heart failure, diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease. CareMore also provides programs for healthy aging.
