For 28 years, the Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE) has recognized some of the region’s most cutting-edge growth companies

WALTHAM, Mass.--()--Mascoma Corporation, a leading provider of bioconversion technology, today announced that it has been selected as a finalist for SBANE’s 2014 New England Innovation Award. The Smaller Business Association of New England (SBANE), which has sponsored the New England Innovation Awards since its inception in 1986, selected Mascoma from 210 innovative organizations to compete in the final phase of this year’s competition.

Through its Mascoma Grain Technology, or MGT®, yeast products including TransFerm® and TransFerm Yield+™, Mascoma has produced over 1 billion gallons of renewable biofuels.

“We are honored to be selected as a finalist for this year’s SBANE New England Innovation Award,” said Bill Brady, President and CEO of Mascoma. “Innovation is at the core of everything we do at Mascoma, which is one of the reasons we have consistently been able to push the envelope to become the world’s leading technology provider for efficient bioconversion. We are proud to be recognized as one of New England’s leading innovators, and we are excited about our future growth and the new technologies we are developing that will benefit the region and the rest of the world.”

Innovation is at the heart of economic prosperity and SBANE continues to recognize those companies and organizations that have transformed their ideas into a product or service that delivers proven value to customers. Entering its 28th year, prior winners of the New England Innovation Award come from varying fields such as technology, manufacturing, service (both for profit and not for profit), and retail / distribution. Recipients of this prestigious award include some of the region’s most recognizable companies (selected in their early stage) including Staples, PictureTel, Ben & Jerry’s, Brooks Automation, Direct Tire, Genzyme, Nantucket Nectars, Imagitas!, Aurora Imaging Technology, and iRobot.

Winners and award finalists will be honored at the “Evening of Innovation” Gala Dinner on May 7, 2014 at the Westin Hotel, Waltham MA. The keynote speaker for this year’s Gala Dinner will be Andy Miller, Chief Innovation Architect, Constant Contact.
