NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cambridge Education Group is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. James Tracy as the new Head of School at CATS Academy Boston. This appointment is the culmination of an intensive search to identify a successor to the school’s founding Head of School, Dr. Charles F. Clark.
Dr. Tracy, who assumed the position as Head of School on March 10, 2014, brings over 20 years of leadership in New England independent school to CATS Academy Boston. As the former headmaster of Boston University Academy and Cushing Academy, Dr. Tracy made significant strides in improving both schools. Under Dr. Tracy’s leadership, Boston University Academy (BUA) achieved a national ranking as 21st among private day schools and BUA students consistently scored the 2nd highest in New England for SAT results. At Cushing Academy, Dr. Tracy strategically raised the school to a top ranked boarding school recognized for its innovation. While at Cushing, Dr. Tracy raised more than $25M for endowment, facilities, and school projects, increased the international student population to represent students from over thirty countries, and established Cushing Academy as the first American high school to affiliate with Oxford University. Additionally, Dr. Tracy’s innovation at Cushing Academy led to his participation on NPR’s All Things Considered and CBS World News as well as his involvement in a United Nations conference with 600 delegates from around the world.
At CATS Academy Boston, Dr. Tracy’s primary focus is to develop a model academic program that integrates traditional education and innovative 21st century leadership, entrepreneurship, and skill building across disciplines. Additionally, Dr. Tracy will also emphasize the further development of the CATS Academy Boston mission to ensure that students receive the best preparatory education for gaining entry to selective colleges and universities in the United States.
“What really sets CATS Academy Boston apart from other American boarding schools is that we are, first and foremost, dedicated to an international student community where students can learn alongside classmates from all over the world. This provides our American students with the opportunity to build a lifelong network of friends and colleagues globally without leaving home during the high school years,” said Dr. Tracy. “Additionally, our students are prepared to think, to be creative and to be innovative, even entrepreneurial. When applying to colleges, our students not only have strong scores but they can also show they have taken small leadership roles and done things that set them apart as future leaders. These qualities will enhance their candidacy and ensure that colleges and universities give their applications a strong consideration.”
Dr. Tracy received his Ed.M and MBA from Boston University and Ph. D. from Stanford University. He has served as a Visiting Fellow at Yale University, a Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia University and is an Affiliate of Harvard University’s Berkman Center.
