DANVERS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CyPhy Works is proud to announce that Founder and CEO Helen Greiner has been named a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE) by the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker.
Today U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will chair the first-ever meeting of the President’s Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship (PAGE), a group of successful American businesspeople who have committed to sharing their time, energy, ideas, and experience to help develop the next generation of entrepreneurs.
During the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in October 2013, President Obama announced that the Administration would form a committee of entrepreneurs, to be chaired by Secretary Pritzker. The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) are also partners in this effort.
“I was lucky to have come as a child to the U.S. – a place of limitless opportunity where you can follow your passion, create cool products and good paying jobs,” said CyPhy Works CEO Helen Greiner. “I am thrilled to be a member of PAGE because I am passionate about entrepreneurship. I will use the position to promote the creation of scalable technology companies to improve quality of life, employment, employee growth, community prosperity, and social good.”
“I am excited to work with some of America’s most dynamic businesspeople to inspire the next generation of U.S. entrepreneurs,” said Secretary Pritzker. “America’s entrepreneurial spirit has always been a key driver of our economic growth and success. Through this group, we will take what we know about transforming innovative ideas into thriving companies and share that knowledge around the country and the world.”
Research indicates that startups account for about 20 percent of job creation in the U.S., and that new and young companies add net new jobs to the economy in many ways. Not only do they create positions for those entering the job market for the first time, but they also absorb workers who may have been laid off from companies that are contracting.
Members have agreed to participate in an ongoing dialogue with policy makers globally to discuss how to create an environment where creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship can grow and thrive. They will also participate in outreach and mentorship activities to help promote start-up culture, and energize their own personal and professional networks to challenge and inspire budding entrepreneurs and raise awareness of the many resources available to them.
The inaugural members of PAGE are:
- Rich Barton, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, Zillow
- Tory Burch, Chief Executive Officer, Tory Burch; Founder, Tory Burch Foundation
