Regis University Offers Applied Craft Brewing Program

DENVER--()--For hundreds of years, monks have been brewing and selling their own beers to help fund their acts of good will in the community. Many long-standing modern breweries trace their origins back to these beer-brewing monks and now Regis University aims to continue that tradition by getting into the beer business.

Beginning this fall, Regis University will offer the region’s first certificate in Applied Craft Brewing. Regis hopes to meet the needs of the booming craft beer industry by educating current and future craft brewers in Denver – the heart of the craft brewing industry – in the biology and business of brewing beer.

Regis has partnered with several local brewers who are serving on the Professional Brewing Advisory Board and assisting students with hands-on training. Students will take the needed courses in the biology and chemistry of brewing, but will also learn the entrepreneurial business skills of craft brewing and conduct internships at local breweries throughout the nine-month program.

Unlike other certificate or degree programs, Regis’ Applied Craft Brewing certificate is both applicable and time-efficient, designed with the adult learner in mind. Classes are offered in the evening on-campus. The total cost of the program is $7,600 and students are eligible for financial aid.

Students who complete the program also become certified beer judges through the national Beer Judge Certification Program. Students must be 21 years or older to enroll, and space is limited to 24 students. For more information, visit Regis.edu/craftbrewing.
