Foundation for Financial Planning Announces a $500,000 Matching Gift Program with Fidelity Investments to Provide Pro Bono Financial Planning to Americans in Need

ATLANTA--()--The Foundation for Financial Planning today announced that over the next year, Fidelity Investments® will match financial planner and investment advisor contributions up to $500,000 to the Foundation to support pro bono financial planning activities for Americans in need.

Fidelity Institutional, the division of Fidelity® that provides clearing, custody and investment management products to registered investment advisors (RIAs), banks, broker-dealers and family offices, has supported the Foundation’s mission for more than 14 years, contributing over $1.5 million1. This support has helped the Foundation fund a wide range of non-profit initiatives that provide pro bono financial advice to individuals not traditionally served by the industry, including low- and moderate-income families, military personnel and victims of natural disasters among others.

“The Foundation for Financial Planning is the only organization dedicated solely to supporting the delivery of pro bono financial planning to underserved communities. We understand that these individuals are more likely to experience difficulty with debt and other financial challenges. We are more committed today than ever and know that our success is made possible by the steadfast support of financial donors and pro bono volunteers,” said Elissa Buie, CFP®, Foundation Chair.

“As an industry, it is important that we come together to support communities that do not typically receive financial advice, as it is often these individuals who can benefit the most from a financial plan,” said Bob Oros, executive vice president, Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services®. “We invite the financial advisor community to join us in making a pledge to support an organization that is truly making a difference when it comes to financial planning for Americans in need.”

“Every day we connect people who lack financial planning knowledge with pro bono financial planners who volunteer thousands of hours annually to help put them on the path to financial freedom. We know that financial planning matters and having the ability to plan for future home and car repairs matters to most Americans. Lack of basic financial planning skills not only impacts the individual, it impacts the economy as well,” said James A. Peniston, executive director of the Foundation for Financial Planning.

To make a matching pledge of $1,000 or more to the Foundation for Financial Planning, call (770) 938-1110 or visit its website at www.foundation-finplan.org. Pledges may be paid over five years and all contributions are tax-deductible.
