HomeMed Specialty Pharmacy Launches Patient Compliance Division

Expanded offering delivers compliance-based patient care with focus on improved outcomes

INDIANAPOLIS--()--HomeMed Pharmacy, a nationally licensed, VIPPS-accredited specialty pharmacy, has announced the launch of a new, compliance-focused division of its pharmacy services.

The new division provides patients with specialty prescription medications and support, including reminders, licensed pharmacist consultations, and compliance tracking and reporting.

“We’re taking a business-focused approach to help physician practices and surgery centers reduce risk and deliver the best care possible to their patients,” said HomeMed President Ryan O'Rourke. “We have more than ten years experience in specialty pharmacy, fulfilling and shipping both prescription and over-the-counter medications. We’re extending that experience with a business model that partners with physician practices to focus on patient compliance, safety and reporting.”

A 2012 CVS Caremark report found that 25 percent of patients prescribed medications for a new illness fail to fill their initial prescription, and half of all patients taking medications for a chronic disease stop taking their medications within a year of starting therapy. The same report estimated the cost of unnecessary medical treatment resulting from medication non-adherence at $290 billion annually.

HomeMed’s patient compliance division works directly with physician offices to ensure patient prescription compliance. Services include same-day shipping, pre- and post-procedure patient consultation and reminders, and access to licensed pharmacists during regular business hours. The compliance regimen can help lower risk, prevent complications and reduce the need to postpone surgical procedures.

HomeMed accepts most major insurance plans and Medicare, with prescription shipment direct to the patient’s home.
