KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.--()--Millions of Americans, including breast cancer survivors and individuals battling leg edema and ulcers, suffer from lymphedema. Thanks to a new strategic alliance between Medline Industries, Inc., the nation's largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of health care products, and Devon Medical Products, a global medical device manufacturer, more people will have greater access to medical devices that treat this condition.

Varying medical sources estimate that three to five million Americans are affected by lymphedema, a condition in which damage or blockage of the lymph systems causes fluid buildup and massive swelling typically in the arms and legs. Under the agreement, Medline will have exclusive U.S. distribution rights for Devon Medical Products’ line of CircuFlow® pneumatic compression therapy pumps that treat lymphedema.

“Lymphedema is a serious condition impacting millions of people and we’re thrilled to work with Devon Medical Products to expand access to a highly effective treatment and technology to help improve patient care,” said Jack Bowser, president of Medline’s Primary Care division.

The lymphedema pumps apply gradient air pressure through compatible garments on the arms or legs that inflate and deflate sequentially, a process that moves the lymphatic fluid in the correct physiological direction and prevents swelling. The arterial pump applies sequential air pressure through compatible garments on the foot and calf to help deliver blood to the feet and legs, which helps prevent blood pooling and ulcers on patients suffering from ischemia, claudication, and other arterial insufficiencies.

“We are very pleased to form this alliance with such a renowned and well-respected medical products company,” says Chip Ross, president of Devon Medical Products. “Medline has a rich tradition of offering quality medical devices at competitive price points in this country. We share Medline’s goals of enhancing patient care and increasing access to medical device technology, and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship.”

Products to be distributed by Medline include the CircuFlow® 5150 and CircuFlow® 5200 four-chambered lymphedema compression pumps, the CircuFlow® 5208 lymphedema eight-chambered compression pump, the ArterioFlow® 7500 arterial compression pump, and all compression sleeve models that these devices utilize.

The CircuFlow® intermittent pneumatic compression pumps are easy to use with a sleek, modern design to allow patients the freedom to treat chromic venous and lymphatic disorders in the comfort of their own home.
