PARIS & HANNOVER, Germany--()--At CeBIT in Hannover Germany this week, Kolibree announced that it is using a single-chip wireless connectivity solution from CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) to Bluetooth-enable its electric connected toothbrush.

The innovative Kolibree toothbrush was unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2014) last month as the World’s First Connected Electric Toothbrush which helps people monitor their brushing and take control of their health and teeth with easy-to-understand monitoring and scoring. With the Kolibree smart toothbrush and mobile app, you can transform what was once a boring activity into a motivating and fun experience that can help improve the overall health of your teeth.

Kolibree chooses CSR’s Bluetooth solution because of its flexibility and compatibility, making the Kolibree app available worldwide to users of the most popular smartphones and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

CSR’s Bluetooth silicon offers low power consumption which is essential for such a compact portable device, allowing battery life of roughly a week per recharge. In addition, the small footprint and low requirements for external components of CSR’s Bluetooth silicon has not only allowed Kolibree to create a versatile device with a small and ergonomic design but also to embed sensors providing data about each brushing. These qualities make CSR’s Bluetooth solution ideal for such mobile connected devices.

“Kolibree is one of the pioneering users of Bluetooth solutions for wireless connectivity. We’ve worked with their seasoned team of innovative product designers for more than ten years, starting with the world’s first Bluetooth-enabled Barcode Scanner which incorporated CSR’s first-generation BlueCore® chip. We’re thrilled that they are choosing our Bluetooth technology once again to bring to market Kolibree’s connected electric toothbrush,” said Gordon Petrie, VP of Sales, Europe at CSR.

“It’s always a pleasure to partner with such an expert team who takes the best of our technology and uses it to bring an easy and exciting experience to the consumer,” said Thomas Serval, co-founder of Kolibree. “It was really important for us to choose the best Bluetooth compatible solution to ensure we could reach as many people as possible through as many existing smartphones as possible while making it easy and transparent for the consumer. Additionally, it was key for us to use open standards that would allow developers to create apps, education programmes and games to make the brushing experience more efficient and fun. Since Kolibree’s key focus is family use, we plan to incorporate incentives into the app through gamification so kids will brush better and longer – all of which parents can monitor on their smartphones. By using CSR’s Bluetooth silicon and standard protocols, we’re able to open up this experience to the entire community,” he added.

About Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a technology specification for low-cost, short-range radio links between mobile PCs, mobile phones and other portable devices. The Bluetooth specification defines, for the first time, a radio standard that allows mobile phones, hand-held computers and PCs to communicate wirelessly without manual user intervention. Bluetooth is lower in cost and power consumption than alternative wireless standards. More information about Bluetooth can be found on the SIG web site at www.bluetooth.com.
