DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/j5wpvh/automatic_vending) has announced the addition of the "Automatic Vending Market Report 2013" report to their offering.
This Market Update analyses the automatic vending market in the UK. The report does not cover the use of coin- or token-operated gambling and amusement machines, personal weighing machines, ticket machines at car parks, public telephones or photocopier. The authors estimate that the UK market for sales of products distributed via automatic vending machines continued to fall in value, by an estimated 4.1% and 3.4%, respectively, in 2011 and 2012.
Refreshment vending is the largest sector of the automatic vending market and accounted for 84.9% of the total market in 2012, up from 78.5% in 2008. This sector covers a wide variety of products, including hot and cold beverages, confectionery, sandwiches, savoury snacks, and hot and cold meals. The authors estimate that, between 2008 and 2012, total retail sales via refreshment vending machines fell by 5.4%, while figures from the Automatic Vending Association (AVA) showed that between 2008 and 2011, the number of refreshment vending machines in the UK fell by 6.3%.
In recent years, businesses are increasingly promoting sustainability in as many ways they can, and the vending industry is no exception. Many vending machine manufacturers and operators embrace and promote ethnical business practices, such as reducing their carbon footprint, implementing efficient waste management strategies, and offering Fairtrade-certified product ranges from their vending machines, such as Fairtrade teas and coffees.
The other vending machines sector which offers the most diverse range of products, including sanitary products, stationery, computer accessories, etc. accounted for 15.1% of the total market in 2012. The value of the other vending machines sector has also decreased in value, falling by 6.6% over the same period. The Government's Health Act 2009 came into force on 1st October 2011, which resulted in total ban on cigarette vending machines in the UK. As such, the sector for cigarette/tobacco machines left the market in 2012.
Retail sales of vended products are forecast to fall by 1.2% in 2013; however, the sector is expected to resume growth the following year, when it is forecast to increase by 0.9% in terms of value. Between 2013 and 2017, the market is expected to grow by 6.1%.
